E-Van on the Road: StreetScooter Has a Smart Way
The move toward electric delivery vehicles a step closer last month with the inauguration of an e-van, produced by Ford and Deutsche Post DHL Group, in the German city of Cologne. The launch of WORK XL StreetScooter has been heralded as an innovative and eco-friendly response to the challenge of increasing package shipments, with 2,500 e-van expected to be ready for service by the end of 2018. XL WORK consists of a Ford Transit chassis, a body that has been built with DHL Deutsche Post specifications, and battery-electric drivetrain. With a load volume of 20 cubic meters and enough space to carry more than 200 gifts, XL WORK certainly represents a significant improvement in this case from its predecessor: WORK and WORK L have a load volume of only 4 and 8 cubic meters respectively. The rack is installed in the load area, which has been designed to be fully accessible from the cab. Loading is possible through the back door and also side side sliding doors. Thanks to a modular fitting battery system that delivers 30 kWh of power up to 90 kWh, it also has a range between 80 and 200km.
In the past, electric delivery vehicles have been criticized for their high costs. This problem is obviously handled by the author; WORK XL has a charging capacity of 22 kW however, which means the charging time is usually only three hours.
Running with electricity means every WORK XL is expected to make an annual savings of about five tons of CO2 emissions and 1,900 liters of diesel. As Jürgen Gerdes, a member of the Deutsche Post executive board, writes: “This [the StreetScooter WORK XL] is the perfect vehicle for packet shipments in large cities and large urban areas, and will enable us to overcome packet volume increases in a way that more environmentally friendly and more calm.With this commitment, we also underline our claim as a market leader in green logistics. ”
Agreed with Mr Gerdes in his approval of the electric delivery vehicle, Steven Armstrong, group vice president and president, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Ford Motor Company, added: “We are very proud of this ambitious project, and a strong partnership. with Deutsche Post DHL Group and StreetScooter.This joint project will be Europe’s largest producer of European emissions, emissions-free and does not come too long Buses, cars and, of course, delivery vans play an important role in our daily lives, yet we must find a way to make it cleaner.The project is a major step along this path. ”
